Operations Support Function

Menzies Distribution Solutions Ltd are currently looking for an experienced Operational Support to join our business. The Operations Support Function is a centralised regional role designed to provide flexible operational and management support across multiple sites. The role will work directly with the Head of Operations (HOO) and Regional General Managers (RGMs) to relieve workload, address operational hotspots, and provide contingency cover for short-term gaps (e.g. holidays, sickness, leavers). 
 
This role is not assigned to a single cost centre but operates across the region, offering exposure to multiple disciplines while supporting succession planning. Over a rolling two-year period, the postholder will gain experience and structured training to prepare for future progression into Depot Manager or General Manager positions.  The function mirrors elements of a graduate development scheme by combining shadowing, coaching, and practical experience to build a broad operational skillset. 

The Details:

  • Salary: £43,000k Per Annnum / £18.37 Per Hour
  • Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday Days
  • Hours: 45 Per Week
  • Holidays: 33 Days Per Annum - inclusive of 8 Bank Holidays

Key Duties and Accountabilities (Will include but not be limited to)

  • Work closely with HOO and RGMs to support workload management and provide cover across sites. 
  • Shadow senior leaders, attending customer meetings, MBRs, budget reviews, Tuesday numbers, and operational walks.
  • Gain exposure to key support functions including Finance, SHEQ, Fleet, HR, and Compliance.
  • Act as note taker for HR meetings to develop understanding of employee relations processes. With progression towards leading people meetings and people impacting change projects.
  • Support recruitment processes, including interview participation and shortlisting.
  • Contribute to customer improvement plans, operational projects, and business improvement initiatives. With a key focus on being involved with Profit Improvement Plans (PIP’s), working towards achieving proficient in the completion and management of PIP’s. 
  • Build relationships with fleet and central compliance teams to strengthen operational governance.
  • Support preparation of reports, data analysis, and KPI tracking across multiple depots. 
  • Provide interim cover for operational management during periods of absence. 
  • Uphold health & safety standards and compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements. 

Key Experience and Qualifications:

  • Ambitious and motivated to progress into operational leadership. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships quickly. 
  • High level of organisation and adaptability to work across multiple sites and functions. 
  • IT literate (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel). 
  • Desire to develop leadership, compliance, and financial management skills. 
  • Willingness to travel frequently across the region. 
  • CPC qualification desirable (or willingness to work toward).
