About the Role

Choice Teachers are currently looking to appoint a passionate and experienced Head of English to join a forward-thinking secondary school in the Bromley area. This is a full-time, permanent position starting in September 2025.

The school is proud of its strong English department and is looking for a confident leader who can continue to raise standards in English teaching and learning. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the English curriculum and leading a talented team of English teachers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic development of the English department

• Ensure consistently high standards in English teaching across all key stages

• Monitor and raise student achievement in English

• Oversee planning, delivery, and assessment of the English curriculum

• Drive improvements in literacy and passion for English literature

• Mentor and support staff within the English team

• Promote high standards of behaviour and engagement in English lessons

• Develop enrichment and extra-curricular activities within English

• Stay up to date with developments in English education

• Represent the department in whole-school leadership discussions and initiatives

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English or related subject

• Significant experience teaching English at secondary level (KS3–KS4, ideally KS5)

• Experience in a leadership role within an English department

• Strong track record of improving outcomes in English

• Excellent organisational and communication skills

• A genuine passion for English education and student success
