TEACHING ASSISTANT

To support within SEN / MAINSTREAM SCHOOLS 

WAKEFIELD

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have the patience, empathy, and dedication to help every child thrive? 

  • We are seeking a committed and compassionate Teaching Assistant to assist in both SEN schools and mainstream schools across Wakefield. As a Teaching Assistant you will be supporting schools in their time of need. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners, and a great way to start and return to a career in Education.

    Your Responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant: 

    • Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with a range of SEN (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social/emotional needs).

    • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.

    • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.

    • Support the class teacher in managing behaviour and maintaining classroom routines.

    • Monitor student progress and contribute to individual education plans (IEPs).

    • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals.

    What We’re Looking For in a Teaching Assistant 

    • Previous experience working with children with SEN (in a school or similar setting) is highly desirable.

    • A nurturing and resilient approach, with excellent communication skills.

    • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

    • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant Certificate, or similar) are advantageous.

    • A flexible team player who can adapt to the needs of the school and pupils.
