Teacher of Design Technology and Art – Secondary School
Location: Battersea, London

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and skilled Teacher of Design Technology and Art to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Battersea. This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire young learners through practical and visual creativity, while contributing to a supportive and collaborative school community.

About the School

Located in the heart of Battersea, this diverse and inclusive secondary school is committed to high standards of teaching, creativity, and student success. With a strong focus on personal development as well as academic achievement, the school provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for both staff and students.

Art and Design Technology are well-established and respected subjects within the curriculum. The school boasts well-equipped specialist teaching spaces and encourages cross-curricular collaboration, enrichment, and real-world learning experiences.

The Role

As a Teacher of DT and Art, you will deliver engaging and high-quality lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, supporting students in developing practical skills, creativity, and independent thinking. You’ll play a vital role in helping learners express themselves through both artistic and design-based work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Design Technology and Art across all year groups, adapting lessons to suit a range of abilities.

  • Plan and deliver creative, inclusive, and challenging schemes of work in both subjects.

  • Prepare students for GCSE-level assessment in either or both subject areas.

  • Support students in building strong technical and visual literacy, as well as creative confidence.

  • Contribute to the development of the Art and DT curriculum and take part in department initiatives.

  • Help organise and lead extracurricular opportunities such as exhibitions, clubs, or trips.

  • Participate fully in school life, including form tutoring, parent evenings, and staff CPD.

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement, and achievement in your classroom.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent teaching qualification) and a relevant degree in Art, DT, Product Design, or a related field.

  • Have experience teaching Art and/or DT in a secondary school setting.

  • Be confident in using a range of materials, tools, and creative techniques - both digital and traditional.

  • Be passionate about helping students explore their creativity and develop hands-on skills.

  • Have a strong understanding of assessment in Art and DT, particularly at GCSE level.

  • Be a reflective practitioner with a commitment to professional development and inclusion.

  • Be organised, proactive, and a strong team player with excellent communication skills.

This position is being advertised by Choice Teachers on behalf of a valued client school in the Battersea area.

If you’re ready to inspire creativity, build confidence, and make a lasting impact through teaching Art and Design Technology - we would love to hear from you.
