Location: Crystal Palace, London

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated Subject Lead of Media to join a thriving Sixth Form community in the Crystal Palace area. If you're passionate about media education and ready to lead a subject that shapes how young people understand and create content in today’s world, this could be your next step.

About the Sixth Form

Located in the vibrant and culturally rich area of Crystal Palace, this dedicated Sixth Form centre offers a forward-thinking and inclusive environment for students aged 16–19. The college prides itself on academic excellence, high expectations, and a strong pastoral ethos. It supports students from a diverse range of backgrounds to succeed and thrive—both in education and beyond.

With a growing reputation for creativity and achievement, the Sixth Form offers a broad and balanced curriculum, including A-levels and vocational pathways. Media is a flagship subject, attracting engaged and imaginative students who are eager to pursue careers in film, journalism, digital content, marketing, and more.

The Role

As Subject Lead of Media, you will take strategic and operational responsibility for the planning and delivery of Media at KS5 (Level 3). You will lead a subject that is both academically rigorous and creatively vibrant, helping students build the analytical, technical, and creative skills necessary to succeed in the modern media landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Media department with a clear vision, strong curriculum leadership, and a commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.

  • Teach engaging, challenging, and innovative Media lessons at Level 3 (A-level and/or vocational equivalent).

  • Oversee curriculum development, including schemes of work, assessment planning, and enrichment.

  • Monitor and drive student progress, using data to support targeted interventions and maximise achievement.

  • Support students with university applications, portfolio development, or routes into apprenticeships and creative industries.

  • Work closely with SLT and other subject leads to contribute to whole-college initiatives and cross-curricular opportunities.

  • Promote a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence both within the classroom and across the wider college community.

  • Organise and lead extracurricular opportunities including trips, workshops, guest speakers, and partnerships with media professionals.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a degree in Media, Film, or a related discipline.

  • Have successful experience teaching Media at post-16 (A-level/BTEC/UAL), with evidence of strong outcomes and student progress.

  • Demonstrate subject expertise and a passion for engaging students in both the analytical and practical aspects of media.

  • Have experience of curriculum leadership or be ready to take the next step in their teaching career with clear leadership potential.

  • Be confident using a range of media technologies and software, including Adobe Creative Cloud or similar industry-standard tools.

  • Show commitment to inclusive education and a belief in the potential of every student.

  • Be organised, resilient, and able to lead by example in a busy and ambitious Sixth Form setting.

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire students and collaborate with colleagues.

This role is being advertised by Choice Teachers on behalf of a valued client in the Crystal Palace area.
If you're ready to lead a subject with huge creative potential, make a meaningful impact on post-16 learners, and shape the future of media education—we would love to hear from you.
