Teaching Assistant – Camden

Choice Teachers are seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to support our partner schools across Camden. We offer long-term positions in both primary and secondary schools, as well as flexible day-to-day Teaching Assistant work. Roles are available in Early Years, mainstream settings, and SEN departments, including opportunities within an Autism Unit at one of our key client schools.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who may not have formal experience but have the willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a genuine desire to support children.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils in mainstream, SEN, and autism-specific environments

• Work with children who may be non-verbal, requiring strong communication skills, patience, and adaptability

• Engage in pupil support that may include physical interaction, especially in primary settings (getting down to the child’s level, supporting movement, encouraging participation)

• Work 1:1 or in small groups, depending on the needs of the class

• Assist teachers in delivering structured and engaging learning sessions

• Build positive relationships with pupils, helping them feel safe, supported, and confident

The Ideal Candidate Will

• Have a genuine interest in supporting children with autism and additional needs

• Be open to learning new strategies and approaches — experience is not required

• Communicate clearly, calmly, and confidently with both verbal and non-verbal pupils

• Be patient, empathetic, and proactive

• Be comfortable engaging physically at the child’s level when working in primary or early years

• Have a DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply)

• Be reliable and able to follow teacher guidance
