Job Title: School Caretaker / Site Supervisor (Temp-to-Perm)

Location: Watford (Based at a thriving 'Good' Ofsted-rated primary school)

Salary / Rate: £25,989 – £28,600 FTE (Depending on experience) 

Contract Type: Temporary/Supply leading to Permanent (Starting ASAP, with a handover expected around late November)

About the Role

Choice Teachers is proud to be partnering with a vibrant, inclusive primary school located in the heart of Watford to recruit a reliable, hands-on School Caretaker / Site Supervisor.

As the school prepares for a planned site transition following a departing staff member, they are looking for an experienced caretaker to ensure the school grounds and buildings remain safe, secure, and fully operational. This position offers an ideal temp-to-perm "try-before-you-commit" approach—allowing you to start on a flexible supply basis (similar to other successful permanent transitions at the school) before moving over to a permanent contract if it's the right match for both parties.

Key Responsibilities:

• General site maintenance, routine repairs, DIY tasks, and general upkeep across the school buildings and grounds.

• Managing site security, locking/unlocking premises, and overseeing gate controls.

• Ensuring strict adherence to health and safety compliance, including fire safety checks, routine testing, and keeping accurate maintenance logs.

• Porterage duties, moving heavy items, and setting up spaces for school events.

• Liaising safely with external contractors and managing on-site schedules.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Proven experience as a school caretaker, site manager, or within general facilities/property maintenance.

• A practical, hands-on skillset covering basic DIY, plumbing, carpentry, or general building repairs.

• A strong working knowledge of health, safety, and safeguarding protocols in an educational setting.

• Enhanced DBS clearance (or a willingness to obtain one quickly via Choice Teachers).
