SEN Teaching Assistant – SEN Secondary School (Barnet)
Location: Barnet, North London
Pay: £80–£100 per day (depending on experience)
Start: ASAP

We are currently recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN secondary school in Barnet. The school supports students with a range of Special Educational Needs, particularly Autism and developmental needs, and many pupils are non-verbal.

Classes are small, with around 10 pupils per class, allowing staff to provide more focused and tailored support to each student.

This is a flexible role, ideal for candidates looking for day-to-day work, with the potential to become a long-term position for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with Autism and additional needs

  • Support non-verbal pupils using appropriate communication methods (e.g. visual prompts, gestures, communication aids)

  • Assist students with developmental and daily living skills

  • Support with personal care where required

  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure students are engaged and supported throughout the day

  • Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with Autism (ASC) and/or non-verbal students

  • Comfortable supporting personal care needs

  • A patient, nurturing and proactive approach

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in an SEN school or specialist provision

  • Care or support work experience (e.g. care assistant, support worker, residential care) – this is highly beneficial and transferable to the role

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs in a specialist setting.
