Teaching Assistant

Location: Stevenage
Start Date: Thursday 3rd September
Contract: Long-term, ongoing
Hours: Full-time, 8:30am – 3:30pm

We are seeking a dedicated, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Stevenage from Thursday 3rd September on a long-term, ongoing basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their experience within education and become a valued member of a school community. The school can be a challenging environment, so we are looking for someone who is confident, patient and able to remain calm and consistent when dealing with challenging behaviour.

For the right candidate, there is the potential for the role to become permanent.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students in the classroom and throughout the school day.
  • Work closely with teachers to help students engage with their learning.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required.
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning.
  • Support with behaviour management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with students.
  • Encourage students to develop their confidence, independence and academic skills.
  • Work as part of the wider school team to support students' needs.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be:

  • Confident working with secondary-aged students.
  • Comfortable working in a challenging school environment.
  • Calm and consistent when managing difficult or challenging behaviour.
  • Able to establish clear boundaries while developing positive relationships with students.
  • Passionate about supporting young people.
  • A strong communicator and team player.
  • Adaptable and willing to get stuck in and support wherever needed.

Previous experience working in a school or with young people is desirable, although candidates with strong transferable experience and the right attitude are also encouraged to apply.
