Choice Teachers are currently working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Camden who are seeking an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, SEMH Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Teaching Assistant, or Learning Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support a pupil with significant social, emotional and behavioural needs, helping them access learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships within school.

The successful Behaviour Mentor will work closely with teaching staff and the wider SEND team to provide consistent support, maintain clear boundaries, and create a safe and positive learning environment where the pupil can thrive.

This role would particularly suit candidates with experience working within a PRU, Alternative Provision, SEMH school, or supporting children with high levels of emotional and behavioural need.


About the Role – Behaviour Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Provide dedicated support to a pupil with behavioural, emotional and social needs.
  • Support the pupil to engage with learning and access the curriculum.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship whilst maintaining firm boundaries.
  • Use de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques effectively.
  • Support the pupil during periods of dysregulation and emotional distress.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the SEND team to implement support strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Support the pupil's academic, social and emotional development.
  • Create a calm, structured and predictable environment for learning.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have previous experience working as a Behaviour Mentor, SEMH Teaching Assistant, PRU Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Learning Mentor, or SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, Demand Avoidance, or behavioural needs.
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour and maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Have experience using de-escalation strategies and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Team Teach training is desirable but not essential. Applicants must have experience using de-escalation techniques and supporting children with SEMH, behavioural, or emotional needs.
  • Have a trauma-informed, patient and empathetic approach.
  • Be able to build positive relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Have a strong presence, excellent communication skills, and confidence in decision making.
  • Be reliable, punctual, and understand the importance of consistency.
