D&T Technician - Woodwork

Location: Wakefield

We are seeking a practical, organised and safety-conscious Design and Technology Technician to support a D&T department in a secondary school in Wakefield. This role would suit someone confident working with wood and woodworking machinery, with the ability to help maintain a safe, well-equipped and inspiring workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare wood, materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons.
  • Safely operate, maintain and monitor woodworking machinery and hand tools.
  • Support teaching staff and pupils during practical activities.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and safety checks.
  • Manage stock levels and order materials when required.
  • Keep workshops, preparation rooms and storage areas clean and organised.
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Assist with displays, projects and the development of practical resources.
  • Practical woodworking experience and 

    The Ideal Candidate

    • Previous experience as a D&T Technician is desirable
    • Experience working in a school or workshop environment would be beneficial
    • A relevant Design & Technology qualification or strong D&T knowledge
    • Good organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
    • An understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures
    • A proactive, dependable and flexible approach
    • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
