Art Teacher – Wigan – September 2026 Start - Easter 2027

Choice Teachers are recruiting a full-time Art Teacher on behalf of a secondary school in Wigan. The position will start in September 2026 and is expected to continue on a long-term basis to cover maternity leave.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the role, including planning, delivering lessons, marking and assessing students’ work. We are looking for a confident and creative Art Teacher who can engage students and maintain high standards of teaching and behaviour.

Requirements:

  • A teaching qualification – PGCE with QTS or QTLS
  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain a new one
  • Two satisfactory professional references
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Previous experience teaching Art at secondary-school level

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality Art lessons
  • Mark and assess students’ work, providing constructive feedback
  • Monitor student progress and adapt lessons where required
  • Use creative and interactive teaching methods to encourage participation
  • Support students with additional needs, including those with social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Maintain effective classroom and behaviour management
  • Promote high expectations for achievement, behaviour and creativity
  • Follow all relevant health and safety procedures during practical activities
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and follow the school’s assessment and reporting procedures
