Deputy Nursery Manager – St Albans

Are you an experienced Room Leader ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious Deputy Nursery Manager to join a highly regarded, well-established nursery setting in the heart of St Albans.

This role is an ideal progression for a current Room Leader who is looking to move into a leadership and management position. You will work closely with the Nursery Manager to oversee the smooth running of the nursery, mentor staff, and ensure the highest standards of care and education are consistently delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Nursery Manager in the daily operational leadership of the setting.

  • Mentoring, coaching, and supervising staff to ensure professional excellence.

  • Assisting with staff rotas, recruitment, and performance management.

  • Ensuring all practice is fully compliant with the EYFS framework, OFSTED requirements, and health and safety legislation.

  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with parents and the wider community.

  • Taking the lead in the nursery’s absence, ensuring continuity of care and high operational standards.

Requirements

  • Level 3 Qualification (or above) in Childcare or Early Years Education.

  • Significant experience as a Room Leader or in a similar supervisory role.

  • A deep, practical understanding of the EYFS and safeguarding/child protection procedures.

  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

  • A commitment to maintaining an inclusive, child-centred environment.
