About the Role

Choice Teachers are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a primary-aged pupil with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs at one of our welcoming partner primary schools in Letchworth.

This fixed-term role runs from January 2026 through to February half term and is ideal for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with additional emotional and behavioural needs. You will play a vital role in helping the pupil access learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships within the school environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs throughout the school day

• Support emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour

• Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs

• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support strategies

• Encourage independence, confidence, and social development

• Maintain a calm, safe, and nurturing learning environment

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or additional needs (highly desirable)

• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach

• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

• A genuine passion for supporting children’s wellbeing and development

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

• Reliability and commitment for the full fixed-term period
