Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Northampton Job Type: Full-Time Contract Salary: £90 - £100 per day dependent on experience Start Date: September 2025
About the Opportunity
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with Special Educational Needs and behavioural challenges in both primary and secondary settings
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to help students access the curriculum
- Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans
- Assist with personal care needs and daily living skills where appropriate
- Support classroom teachers in creating inclusive learning environments
- Help manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
- Monitor and record student progress and behaviour incidents
- Work collaboratively with SENCO, teachers, and external professionals
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements:
- Previous experience working with SEN students (candidates without SEN experience will not be considered)
- Experience supporting students with behavioural needs
- Strong understanding of different learning difficulties and disabilities
- Excellent behaviour management skills and patience
- Ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable students
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
- Flexibility to work across both primary and secondary age groups
Desirable Qualities:
- Relevant qualifications in SEN, childcare, or education
- Experience with specific SEN conditions (autism, ADHD, learning difficulties)
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, and parents
- Enthusiasm for supporting students to reach their potential
- Commitment to continuous professional development in SEN practices
