Ideal for: Psychology graduates, youth workers, aspiring therapists/counsellors, or experienced TAs with strong behaviour management skills

Are you a calm, confident, and consistent presence who wants to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people?
Do you have the skills and resilience to support students in overcoming behavioural challenges and re-engaging with education?

We’re working with a forward-thinking secondary school in the Wimbledon area that prides itself on creating a safe, respectful, and high-expectation learning environment. The school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team and help promote positive behaviour, emotional development, and academic progress.

The Role
As a Behaviour Support Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining a positive classroom environment and supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You’ll work closely with the teaching and pastoral staff to implement consistent strategies and provide both in-class and out-of-class support.

In addition to mentoring responsibilities, you will be expected to cover lessons in the absence of teachers, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining clear behaviour expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support for students with SEMH needs, ADHD, autism or trauma-related challenges

  • Support the management of behaviour across the school, particularly in challenging situations

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to help students build resilience, emotional regulation, and engagement

  • Promote positive behaviour and learning routines both in and outside of lessons

  • Supervise whole-class lessons in the absence of teachers, following pre-set plans and maintaining a calm, focused classroom environment

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, pastoral team and classroom staff to deliver joined-up support

  • Apply consistent boundaries and restorative approaches to de-escalate situations effectively

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong classroom and behaviour management skills

  • Can lead a classroom confidently and maintain a productive learning environment

  • Is calm, professional, and proactive under pressure

  • Builds positive, respectful relationships with students

  • Is emotionally intelligent, patient, and reflective

  • Has experience or a genuine interest in supporting students with additional needs

  • Is a strong communicator and team player

  • Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

What the school offers:

  • On-site parking

  • Excellent public transport links

  • A well-structured behaviour system and supportive staff culture

  • Opportunities for continued professional development

  • A referral programme for successful staff recommendations

This is a rewarding and varied role where no two days are the same. If you’re ready to take on a new challenge and help shape a positive, supportive school culture, we’d love to hear from you.
