Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated English curriculum, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of students.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students, including pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor.
  • Facilitate and encourage a positive learning experience, enabling students to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute to raising student attainment and supporting the academy's goals for academic and personal growth.
  • Play an active role in operational and strategic planning, including lesson planning, resource development, and contributing to departmental initiatives.
  • Be a key player in curriculum planning and developing engaging and effective content.
  • Engage fully in staff development and professional growth, including continuing professional development and the Performance Management Review process.
  • Participate in quality assurance by contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of the English department's effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records and track student progress to inform future planning and interventions.
  • Build positive communication channels with students, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure effective support.
  • Provide leadership and guidance as a form tutor, supporting the overall well-being and academic development of your students.

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate for Teacher of English will have:

  • QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Proven teaching experience at the secondary level, ideally with experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and 11-18 education.
  • A strong understanding of the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
  • Familiarity with National Curriculum requirements for English at KS3 and KS4.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans, create engaging resources, and assess students' work to promote learning and achievement.
  • A collaborative approach, able to work as part of a team and build positive relationships with staff.
  • A solid level of ICT skills, with experience using interactive whiteboards and other technology to enhance teaching.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, to engage with students, parents, and external agencies.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to lead and manage your workload effectively.
  • A genuine desire to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a variety of teaching strategies.
