Contract: Full-time, Long-Term / Permanent

Salary: £31,650 – £43,607 per annum (Main Pay Scale, Fringe / Bedfordshire weighting)

Subject Focus: English Language & English Literature (KS3 & KS4 / GCSE, KS5 optional)

Choice Teachers are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join an inclusive, caring, and values-driven secondary school based in Dunstable, starting after the October half-term break.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (AQA specification).

• Deliver A-Level English Literature or Language teaching (optional, depending on experience).

• Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that enhance literacy, critical thinking, and textual analysis skills.

• Adapt teaching to support diverse learning needs, ensuring all pupils—including those with SEND or EAL—can make strong progress.

• Prepare Key Stage 4 pupils effectively for GCSE examinations.

• Maintain a calm, positive, and purposeful classroom environment rooted in mutual respect and clear expectations.

• Contribute collaboratively to departmental planning, moderation, and whole-school literacy initiatives.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.

• A degree in English, English Literature, Linguistics, or a closely related discipline.

• Proven experience teaching English across KS3 and KS4 within a UK secondary school.

• Passion for promoting high standards of reading, writing, and communication across all age groups.

• Strong classroom management skills and a reflective, collaborative teaching approach.

• Right to work in the UK with an enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo standard safeguarding checks).
