Continental Shift Engineer
Location: Sharston
Hours: Continental rotating shift pattern (4 x 07:00–19:00, 4 shifts off, 4 x 19:00–07:00, 4 shifts off)
Reporting to: Maintenance Manager
Salary: £45K - £48K DOE
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Multi-skilled Engineer with an electrical bias to join the Engineering Team at our client based in Sharston. Continental Shift Engineer Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining all machines and services to the highest possible standard, ensuring the smooth and safe running of the site. While based at Sharston, the role also involves supporting the Cheadle warehouse and providing engineering cover at other sites when required.
Continental Shift Engineer Key Responsibilities:
- Complete planned preventative maintenance using a computerised maintenance system.
- Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns, escalating support needs when required to minimise downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
- Provide cover at Sharston, Cheadle, or other company sites as needed.
- Maintain engineering stock levels and ensure sufficient cover is in place.
- Safely manage on-site contractors and ensure compliance with all Permit to Work systems.
- Ensure compliance with quality policies, industry standards, and audit requirements, including BRC Grade AA*.
- Support and collaborate with other departments to drive teamwork and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Engage with stakeholders to share knowledge and promote upskilling.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation and internal policies.
- Support environmental standards, ensuring all activities minimise impact on the environment.
Continental Shift Engineer Person Specification
Essential:
- Electrically biased, multi-skilled engineer
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the food industry
- Experience managing small engineering projects
- Strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic computer literacy
- 18th Edition qualification
Desirable:
- HNC in Electrical Engineering
- PLC fault finding or programming experience
- Refrigeration knowledge
- Background in FMCG environments
- Basic food safety training
- First aid trained
- Experience in lean manufacturing
