Our client, a local council, is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrician to join their Place Services team. This is a key role supporting the safety and functionality of highway infrastructure. You will be responsible for the maintenance and installation of public electrical apparatus, including street lighting, illuminated road signs, and bollards. The role requires working to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism.

Electrician Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out maintenance and construction on public highway electrical systems
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and BS 7671 IEE wiring regulations
  • Accurately complete all documentation as required
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, equipment, and hydraulic platforms up to 15 metres
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Support the training and development of colleagues
  • Represent the council professionally and respond to public enquiries on site

Essential Skills and Experience for this Electrician:

  • In-depth knowledge of street lighting maintenance and electrical fault diagnosis
  • Proven experience installing external electrical works
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and electrical network plans
  • Comfortable working at height using ladders or access platforms
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an engineering or street lighting environment
  • Full, valid UK driving licence

Electrician  Essential Qualifications (must hold or be working towards):

  • BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations (16th Edition or later)
  • NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act)
  • IPAF VM26M
  • G39 Level 2
  • Category C1 driving licence

Electrician Additional Requirements:

  • Physically fit and capable of manual work
  • Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and outside standard hours when required
  • Committed to ongoing training and development
