Infrastructure Engineer – 3-month contract – Northampton

My Customer is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support a server migration project, transitioning from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2025. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a strong Windows ecosystem background, capable of working across complex environments and ensuring a smooth and secure migration.

Required Skills & Experience for the Infrastructure Engineer:

• Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server 2016 and newer versions (including 2025 or latest equivalents)
• Proven track record delivering server migration or upgrade projects ideally Windows 2016 to Windows 2025
• Solid experience across core Windows technologies (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP)
• Experience supporting and maintaining SQL Server (2014 and above)
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within enterprise environments
• Experience working in structured project environments with clear deliverables
• Exposure to or experience with VMware vRealize Automation (vRA) would be beneficial
• Experience with virtualisation technologies (VMware / Hyper-V) would be beneficial

Key Responsibilities of the Infrastructure Engineer:

• Lead and support the migration of Windows Server 2016 environments to Windows Server 2025
• Assess existing infrastructure, identifying dependencies, risks, and opportunities for optimisation
• Build, configure, and deploy new Windows Server environments
• Perform in-place upgrades and/or migration to new infrastructure where required
• Support SQL Server environments (2014 onwards), ensuring compatibility and performance post-migration
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across server, OS, and application layers
• Ensure systems are compliant with security and patching standards

The Infrastructure Engineer is required to be onsite, 4 days a week in Northampton.
