Job Summary

Our client, a specialist contractor delivering major foundation, structural, and civil engineering works across some of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes, is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Controller to join a high-profile project team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a landmark project while supporting the successful financial delivery of complex construction works.

The Role

The Senior Cost Controller will be responsible for overseeing project cost control activities, ensuring robust financial management, accurate reporting, forecasting, and budgetary control throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with project teams and key stakeholders, you will help drive financial performance and support informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective cost control procedures and reporting systems.
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and investigate cost variances.
  • Review and validate project invoices, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Produce monthly cost reports, financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and management information.
  • Support budget preparation, updates, and ongoing financial performance monitoring.
  • Identify cost risks and opportunities, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with project, procurement, commercial, and operational teams to ensure financial alignment.
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to monitor cost performance and contractual compliance.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure adherence to company procedures and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in cost control, project controls, or project management within major infrastructure, engineering, or construction projects.
  • Previous experience working on large-scale civil engineering, energy, transportation, or infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience using project controls and financial management systems, such as SAP.
  • Understanding of risk management processes and cost analysis methodologies.
