Erongo Marine Enterprises (PTY) LTD (“EME”) is a proudly Namibian registered fishing company, based in Walvis Bay and has been operating in the Horse Mackerel fishery. EME has an exemplary record in respect of its fishing operations as well as its focus on socio-economic investment and development, both regionally and nationally.

We are looking for a Vessel Training Officer (Seagoing). The purpose of the role is to supervise maritime education, training and record keeping of statutory documentation for all vessel employees.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Deck Officer Class 4/5 or Engineering Officer Class 2/3, Marine Engineering or Maritime Transportation Qualification
  • Five (5) years teaching/ mentoring experience
  • Five (5) years sea-going experience
  • Experience in a learning/training environment
  • Experience in the horse mackerel industry and/or on horse mackerel midwater trawlers (added advantage)
  • HACCP certification
  • Required to work pre-dominantly at sea (80% working at sea) 
  • Code 08 Driver License will be an added advantage

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of Fishing industry, Directorate of Maritime Affairs &, and IMO’s Standards of Training
  • Knowledge of Training and Manning Regulations of the Ministry of Works and Transport
  • Certification and Watch keeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel, as amended (STCW-F ’95) 
  • Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Communication skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of the Namibian Labour and related Legislation
  • Ability to apply diplomacy
  • Ability to deal confidential information
  • Ability to get along with people from diverse background
  • Good Communications Skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports
