Job purpose
The assistant accountant is responsible for completing the bookkeeping, clerical and accounting tasks for a company.
Key Performance Areas
Financial Management
- Day-to-day accounting systems/transactions monitored and reviewed: General Ledger, Creditors, Intercompany, Inventory & Cost of Sales
- Accurate monthly detailed analysis for other cost of sales with full comparison to prior year, budget/forecast.
- Responsible for complete and accurate processing in GL via journals and maintenance thereof at reporting intervals
- Accountable for compiling accurate and complete General Ledger reconciliations
- Review Accounts Payable age analysis and ensure all suppliers are paid on time. Manage relationship with Group Financial Shared Services.
- Year-end preparation and Year-end Audit deliverables
Intercompany Reconciliations
- Intercompany reporting monthly basis
- Accurate reconciliation of Intercompany Suppliers and Loan accounts
- Intercompany confirmations reviewed and signed once reconciliations are accurately compiled
- Accurate preparation of Intercompany schedules for submissions to Group
Reporting
- Reporting requirements
- Accurate compilation of monthly reports and detailed analysis for:
- Other cost of sales including recommendations for corrective actions where required
- Accurate compilation of reports and feedback obtained for:
- Purchase Orders not approved and not receipted (bi- weekly)
- FSSC query list review and feedback (weekly)
- GRIR 90 days review and feedback (weekly)
- AP aged items >90 days review and feedback (monthly)
- Accurate compilation of the monthly management accounts and management packs (distributed in accordance with deadlines)
Internal Controls
- Internal controls monitored and implemented
- Ensure compliance with finance internal control processes and perform JSE control testing procedures for areas, including, but not limited to Trade Payables and Lease Liabilities.
- Improve procurement behaviour & compliance; as a first line approver for POs all control checks to be done
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- B. Comm (Accounting) Degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in a FMCG environment
- SAP experience essential (FI, CO, MM & PS)
- Computer literate (Excel – Advanced)
