Engineering & Maintenance Manager (GMR 2.1)

Location: Southern Suburbs, Cape Town

Overview

A senior leadership opportunity exists for an experienced Engineering & Maintenance Manager (GMR 2.1) to take full accountability for engineering governance, product master data, maintenance strategy, and tooling capability within a complex manufacturing environment.

This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, cost-effective production, while driving engineering best practice, asset performance, and cross-functional alignment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Own product master data integrity (BOMs, routings, ERP systems) to enable efficient manufacturing
  • Ensure engineering governance and configuration control
  • Support and optimise manufacturing processes (machining and/or assembly)
  • Lead technical investigations internally and with customers
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve throughput and reduce cost
  • Develop and implement CAPEX projects aligned to business needs
  • Collaborate with Quality to ensure practical and achievable standards
  • Engage with local and international stakeholders to meet technical requirements

 

Maintenance & Toolroom

  • Legally appointed GMR 2.1 - Supervisor of Machinery
  • Full accountability for Maintenance and Toolroom functions
  • Drive preventative maintenance and TPM initiatives
  • Ensure equipment reliability and uptime to support production
  • Ensure tooling availability and performance for manufacturing requirements
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture

 

Leadership & Business Impact

  • Define and execute departmental strategy aligned to business objectives
  • Lead and develop engineering, maintenance, and toolroom teams
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Production, and Quality
  • Contribute to cost competitiveness and operational performance
  • Build a culture focused on accountability, performance, and continuous improvement

 

Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • B.Eng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10-15 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior management role
  • Proven experience in:
    • Machining and/or assembly operations
    • Engineering governance and master data (BOMs, routings)
    • Maintenance and tooling environments
    • Project / CAPEX management
  • GMR 2.1 appointment (Supervisor of Machinery)
  • Advantageous: GCC (Factories) , SAP or similar ERP system experience & Exposure to international customer engagement
