Our client is seeking to appoint a highly skilled Financial Reporting Specialist to join their team in the Umhlanga area

This is a technical accounting role ideal for a candidate with deep expertise in IFRS and a strong grasp of complex financial reporting standards

Purpose of the Role:
The Financial Reporting Specialist will oversee the organization's financial reporting function, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all financial statements and reporting processes

This role is key to developing and implementing sound financial strategies, managing cash flow effectively, ensuring full statutory and regulatory compliance, and leading audit activities

Acting as a strategic finance partner, the specialist will provide critical insights through detailed analysis, budgeting, and forecasting, while ensuring adherence to IFRS standards. The role also plays a central part in supporting the growth of the finance team and aligning financial practices with the company's broader objectives

Key Performance Areas:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Lead the preparation of accurate financial statements for all group entities in line with IFRS standards.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including consolidated financial packs, cash flow statements, debt schedules, and key financial ratios.
  • Ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance, including Companies Act obligations and internal controls.
  • Monitor IFRS updates and implement changes across the group.

Cash Flow, Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Prepare and review monthly and annual cash flow forecasts, highlighting potential risks.
  • Support the consolidation and preparation of operational, sales, and Capex budgets.
  • Assist in developing five-year forecasts and strategic financial models to support executive decision-making.
  • Consolidate and maintain weekly cash flow forecasts and monthly debt schedules.

Taxation & Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare and review tax calculations, including provisional and deferred tax in line with IAS 12.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities, advise on tax allowances, and respond to SARS queries.
  • Monitor tax legislation changes and ensure group-wide compliance.

Audit & Governance

  • Coordinate audit processes, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor queries.
  • Implement best practices and corrective actions based on audit findings.
  • Ensure sound corporate governance and risk management practices are embedded across the finance function.

Fixed Assets & Technical Accounting

  • Manage the consolidated Fixed Asset Register (FAR), ensuring accurate depreciation and tax allowances (IAS 16, IAS 38, IFRS 16).
  • Support technical accounting for ROU assets, intangible assets, and long-term agreements.
  • Collaborate with teams to forecast and assess the performance of digital and intangible assets.

Systems, Tools & Process Improvement

  • Provide support and insight on the ERP system (Business Central), ensuring year-end rollovers and system integrity.
  • Maintain and support the IDU budget and reporting system.
  • Continuously enhance financial processes and controls to support business growth.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and support the broader finance team to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Engage cross-functionally with executives and department heads to align financial strategies with business goals.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects as required by the CFCO or Finance leadership.

Treasury & Capital Structure

  • Prepare and maintain a debt register and term debt schedules.
  • Reconcile amortisations and interest rates on financial liabilities with monthly accounts.
  • Support capital structuring and covenant monitoring.

Other Duties

  • Prepare statutory returns (e.g., Stats SA).
  • Research and apply appropriate accounting treatments for complex transactions.
  • Create journal entries for group and consolidation adjustments.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant - CA(SA), having completed articles at a recognised Big 10 audit firm.
  • At least 1 year of post-articles experience in a financial reporting role within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong technical proficiency in accounting principles, with in-depth knowledge of IFRS.
  • Solid understanding of business processes, internal controls, and financial systems.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated awareness of regulatory and compliance requirements within the financial environment.
