A multi-office law firm in the North West are looking for a locum to help out with industrial disease work starting as soon as you are able for a period of around 3-6 months. You will need to be either a solicitor or CILEx qualified for this one and be able to handle a caseload of industrial and occupational disease claims with minimal supervision. Defendant insurance experience is strongly preferred, although the firm will consider an experienced disease practitioner with demonstrably transferable skills and a sound understanding of defendant litigation.

The ideal candidate will have experience of most or all of the following:

·asbestos-related disease, including mesothelioma and asbestosis;
·noise-induced hearing loss;
·hand-arm vibration syndrome;
·occupational asthma and dermatitis;
·repetitive strain and other occupational disease claims;
·limitation, breach, exposure, medical causation and quantum issues;
·multi-defendant claims, contribution and apportionment;
·historic employer and insurer investigations;
·reviewing medical and engineering evidence;
·drafting pleadings, witness evidence and advice on liability, causation, tactics and settlement;
·insurer reporting, reserve recommendations and working within delegated authority arrangements; and
·management of both pre-litigation and litigated claims through to settlement or trial.

Either full or part-time hours will be considered although you will need to be available for a minimum of 3 days each week. You will need to attend the firm's offices initially although hybrid working will be available once you are familiar with the software systems.

Emma Ireland LLB AIRP is a failed novelist and accidental poet who writes mostly about politics and social issues. She's either a bloody commie or a bourgeois sell-out depending on whether you listen to her Dad or those who strongly disapprove of Waitrose trifles. After studying law at university she chucked it all in to move to Italy and teach Italian business people how to do their jobs in English. After ten years of wine and sunshine, she returned to the UK and is now a recruitment consultant and freelance writer. At least until that unfinished novel makes her a millionaire.
