The Role

The Head of Infrastructure is responsible for leading the IT Infrastructure function, ensuring the design, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the University’s IT systems, both on-premises and in the cloud. The role requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and strong stakeholder engagement to deliver reliable, secure, and innovative IT services.

You will

• Work closely within the Transformation and Operations service areas in a 4th line support and value engineering capacity.
• Define and implement infrastructure strategy, and drive service quality, innovation, and adoption of emerging technologies.
• Lead system design, ensure compatibility with enterprise architecture, and provide expert advice on technology solutions.
• Maintain compliance with security policies, monitor risks, and implement security controls.
• Manage, lead, and develop IT teams, ensuring effective communication, motivation, and performance.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, represent IT at senior levels, and promote best practices.

About You

• Proven experience leading large, multi-disciplinary IT teams, fostering a collaborative culture.
• Strong technical knowledge across IT Infrastructure including networking, servers, storage, telephony, desktop environments, and cloud platforms.
• Proven ability to define infrastructure strategy and deliver complex projects within large, multi-site environments.
• Understanding of information security principles, data protection regulations, and risk management practices.
• Skilled in managing budgets, negotiating contracts, and managing 3^rd party supplier relationships.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and influence senior stakeholders.

This is a permanent position paying between £63,389 - £71,342, depending on experience. The role is 35 hours a week, predominantly onsite. UWL offers a range of benefits, including a generous pension scheme, access to on-site gym facilities and study leave for professional development.
