Your New Role

As a Technical Capital & Treasury Accountant with Essex Police, you will play a crucial role in managing the force's capital programme and treasury activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and monitoring capital budgets and forecasts.
  • Managing fixed asset accounting, including revaluations, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Supporting the production of year-end accounts in compliance with public sector financial regulations (e.g., CIPFA Code of Practice).
  • Providing expert advice on capital projects, funding streams, and financial strategy.
  • Overseeing treasury management activities, including cash flow forecasting, investment strategies, and compliance with treasury policies.
  • Ensuring effective management of borrowing, investments, and liquidity to support operational needs.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to deliver insightful financial analysis.

 

What You'll Need to Succeed

Mandatory

  • A professional CCAB accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA)
  • Minimum of 2 years capital accounting experience in a financial environment

Desirable

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in an accounting environment (including a minimum of 3 years post-qualified), ideally within a medium or large size public sector organisation
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of capital accounting and treasury management processes, and applicable frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to manage complex financial data and deliver accurate forecasts.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with stakeholders across Essex Police and external partners.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
