Teaching Assistant – Specialist Autism School, New Forest

Location: Specialist School, New Forest Contract: Full-time, Temporary (with potential to become permanent) Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm Pay: £82 – £95 per day Start Date: March 2026 Essential Requirement: Full UK Driving Licence and access to a car

A well-regarded specialist school in the New Forest is seeking committed Teaching Assistants to support students aged 11–18 with Autism and a range of neurodivergent needs. While this role is classroom-based during school hours, it’s worth noting that the site also includes residential housing for some pupils, creating a strong sense of community across the school.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with Autism and additional needs such as ADHD, SEMH and other developmental challenges. You’ll work closely with teachers to help students access learning, develop independence and build confidence. The role includes both one-to-one support and small-group work within the classroom.

 

We’re Looking For Candidates Who:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with additional or complex needs

  • Are confident working in a classroom environment

  • Work effectively as part of a team

  • Are patient, adaptable and responsive to individual pupil needs

  • Hold a relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2 – desirable but not essential)

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with Autism and related needs

  • Assist with classroom routines and learning activities

  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement

  • Support small group sessions and individual interventions

  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community
