Science Technician – Near the New Forest, Southampton
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-Term (Until End of July 2026)
Pay: £14 – £18 per hour (dependent on experience)
Working Hours: 8:00am – 15:30 | Full-Time
Location: Close to the New Forest, Southampton


Position Overview

A “Good”-rated secondary school near the beautiful New Forest in Southampton is seeking a Science Technician to join their dedicated team on a long-term basis. This role starts as soon as possible and will run until the end of July,covering a period of long-term staff absence.

As a key member of the Science department, you will support teachers in delivering engaging practical lessons, ensure the safe preparation of equipment, and help maintain an efficient and well-organised laboratory environment.


What You’ll Be Doing

• Preparing, setting up, and clearing away equipment and materials for Science practical lessons
• Supporting the classroom teacher during practical activities and demonstrations
• Ensuring all equipment is used and stored safely in line with health and safety requirements
• Managing stock levels of chemicals and resources, placing orders when needed
• Maintaining clean, organised, and safe laboratory spaces
• Providing general technical assistance across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

What We’re Looking For

• Experience working as a Science Technician in a school setting (or similar lab-based role)
• Strong understanding of safety procedures within a Science environment
• Organised, practical, and confident preparing equipment for KS3 and KS4 lessons
• Good communication skills and ability to work closely with teachers and students
• A positive attitude and commitment to supporting learning and safety
• Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
