Daily Rate: £100 – £120

Supply Desk is working in partnership with a number of welcoming and supportive primary and secondary schools across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking experienced and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join them on a long-term basis in the new academic year. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to take on additional responsibility and play a key role in supporting teaching and learning.

About the Role

As an HLTA, you will support the delivery of high-quality education across a range of subjects and key stages. You may be required to lead whole-class sessions in the absence of the teacher, deliver targeted interventions, and provide support to pupils with varying abilities, including those with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the teacher
  • Support classroom teaching and learning across KS1–KS4 (depending on setting)
  • Lead small group interventions to support pupil progress
  • Assist with planning and preparation of learning activities
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil performance and engagement
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or HLTA
  • Confidence in leading whole-class learning when required
  • Strong understanding of classroom practices and behaviour management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive, flexible, and resilient approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s development and learning

Requirements

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience (desirable)
  • Previous experience working in a school setting (essential)
  • Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Two years’ worth of professional references
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
