Teaching Assistant (SEMH)

A welcoming school in Milton Keynes is looking for a caring and committed SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join their team. This position would suit someone who is genuinely passionate about supporting young people, helping them overcome barriers to learning while encouraging both their academic and emotional development.

The Role
In this role, you will work with students who require additional support, both in small groups and on a one-to-one basis. You’ll help create a positive and supportive classroom environment, working closely with teachers to deliver personalised interventions. Monitoring student progress and providing regular feedback to staff will also form an important part of your day-to-day responsibilities. You’ll play a key role in helping students build confidence, develop social skills, and manage their emotions, while responding to challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive way.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have some experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, although this isn’t essential. What matters most is a patient, understanding, and resilient approach, along with strong communication skills and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations. A genuine commitment to safeguarding and supporting student wellbeing is essential, as is the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
