History Teacher – Secondary School
Location: Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire
Salary: £34,398 – £46,839 (dependent on experience)

We are working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school in Berkhamsted to recruit a passionate and committed History Teacher to join their Humanities Department from September 2026. The school is known for its supportive ethos, strong academic standards, and dedication to developing confident, well-rounded learners.

The Role
You will teach History across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach Key Stage 5 depending on experience. The role involves delivering engaging, knowledge-rich lessons, assessing student progress, and supporting curriculum development within the Humanities team. You will also play an active role in wider school life and enrichment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality History lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 opportunities available depending on experience)
Plan engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, debate, and historical enquiry
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all students
Track and assess student progress, supporting GCSE History exam preparation
Contribute to curriculum planning and cross-curricular initiatives within the Humanities faculty
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment
Support the school’s behaviour policies and promote positive learning attitudes
Take part in extracurricular activities and contribute to the wider life of the school
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support academic success
Ideal Candidate
Holds QTS or an equivalent overseas teaching qualification
Degree in History or a related Humanities subject
Experience teaching History at KS3 and KS4
Strong subject knowledge with a passion for making History engaging and relevant
Effective classroom management with high expectations for behaviour and achievement
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
Holds (or is willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS
