1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant – Borehamwood
Full-Time | Long-Term | April 2026 Start
Daily Pay: £85–£105 (dependent on experience)

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Borehamwood is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) from April 2026. The school prides itself on fostering a nurturing environment where every child is supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Role Overview

You will provide tailored, consistent support to a pupil with autism, helping them access the curriculum, develop social and communication skills, and build confidence in the classroom. Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals, you will implement personalised strategies to ensure a structured and supportive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide structured 1:1 support for a pupil with ASC throughout the school day

  • Implement personalised learning plans, visual timetables, and behaviour strategies

  • Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation

  • Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet individual needs

  • Use sensory strategies and structured routines where appropriate

  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews, meetings, and reports

  • Foster a calm, predictable, and inclusive learning environment

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children with autism or additional needs

  • Understanding of ASC, sensory processing, and structured support strategies

  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient

  • Confident managing behaviour linked to communication or sensory needs

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
