Location: Portsmouth
Hours: Full-time
Start: ASAP
Pay: £100 – £110 per day

Are you a resilient and compassionate individual with a passion for supporting young people with additional needs?

We’re seeking SEMH Teaching Assistants to join supportive schools across Portsmouth. This role involves working with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them engage with education and develop positive behaviours in a structured and nurturing environment.

You will play a key role in building strong relationships, supporting emotional regulation and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, working closely with teachers and pastoral teams to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom
• Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement
• Building strong, trusting relationships with students
• Supporting learning activities and adapting tasks where needed
• Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams
• Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour calmly and confidently
• Helping pupils develop social skills and coping strategies

What We’re Looking For:

• A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
• Experience working with SEMH, behaviour or additional needs (desirable)
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A proactive and adaptable attitude
• GCSE Maths and English (A–C) desirable
• Team Teach or similar training (desirable, training can be provided)
