SEN Teaching Assistant (Swim Focus)

High Wycombe | SEN School Setting
Immediate / September Start | Long-term Opportunity

Supply Desk is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in High Wycombe to appoint a committed and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant with a Swim Focus. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs both in the classroom and within structured swimming sessions, helping to develop confidence, life skills, and physical wellbeing.

This role would suit a caring, proactive individual with experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly those with an interest in sport, water-based activities, or physical education.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant with a swim focus, you will support pupils with a range of additional needs, both in and out of the classroom. A key part of your role will involve assisting during swimming sessions, ensuring pupils are safe, supported, and fully engaged in learning activities in the pool environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils with special educational needs in class and during swim sessions
  • Assisting the class teacher and SEN team in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to promote engagement and progress
  • Supporting pupils in developing water confidence, safety awareness, and physical skills
  • Ensuring pupil safety during all swimming and pool-based activities
  • Promoting independence, communication, and social development
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (SEN experience highly desirable)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Confidence supporting pupils in a swimming or physical activity environment (training can be provided)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Willingness to support personal care where required
  • Availability to work in High Wycombe on a long-term basis

A relevant TA qualification, sports background, or swimming instructor/lifeguard experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
