English Teacher – Secondary School (KS3 & KS4)

Location: Basingstoke Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Long‑term cover until July 2027 (potential to go permanent) Pay: £168 – £250 per day (dependent on experience)

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated English Teacher to join the school from September 2026.

This role is ideal for both ECTs looking for a supportive start to their teaching career and experienced English teachers seeking a collaborative and well‑resourced department.

You will deliver high‑quality English lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, contributing to a department that values creativity, strong subject knowledge, and a commitment to helping students develop confidence in reading, writing, and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4 that inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Plan and deliver curriculum‑aligned schemes of work that support progress for learners of all abilities.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that reflects the school’s behaviour expectations and values.
  • Contribute to departmental development through collaboration and sharing of best practice.
  • Support literacy initiatives and wider school enrichment that enhance students’ love of language and literature.
  • Uphold the school’s ethos of ambition, kindness, and community.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Degree in English, English Literature, English Language, or a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (ECTs with placement experience welcome).
  • Strong subject knowledge and understanding of curriculum expectations.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and behaviour management skills.
  • A commitment to developing confident, articulate, and motivated young people.
