SEN Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)

HP12 Area | Specialist / Primary School Setting

Supply Desk is delighted to be working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive school in the HP12 area to appoint a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with a care background. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with additional needs and make a genuine difference to their learning, wellbeing, and development.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in care, support work, or youth work who are looking to transfer their skills into an educational setting.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, and SEMH. You will play a key role in supporting both their academic progress and emotional wellbeing in a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering adapted and engaging lessons
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
  • Support personal care needs where required (if applicable to your experience)
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in pupils
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and wider support staff

Requirements

  • Experience in a care, support, or residential setting (essential)
  • Passion for working with children with additional needs
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner
  • DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Ability to work full-time in the HP12 area

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a school or SEN setting
  • Knowledge of SEN needs such as ASD, ADHD, or SEMH
  • Team Teach or behaviour management training
  • Personal care experience
