About the Role

A supportive and inclusive school in Blanford  is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and emotionally.

In this role, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to provide consistent, tailored support to pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance in a structured, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 2:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils in managing emotions, behaviour, and social interactions using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Assist with the delivery of personalised learning and intervention activities aligned with EHCPs and behaviour plans.
  • Help create a safe, calm, and structured environment that promotes engagement and emotional regulation.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to support pupil progress.
  • Monitor behaviour and emotional development, contributing to progress tracking and reporting.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience working with SEMH, behaviour needs, or vulnerable children is highly desirable (school-based or alternative settings).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach with strong behaviour management skills.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A valid DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
