Learning Support Assistant (Part Time)

Location: Fareham

 Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Term Time Only (39 weeks) Part time pm hours

Pay: £14.25 per hour

A friendly and inclusive primary school is looking for a warm, committed Learning Support Assistant to join its team. You will help children to flourish academically, socially and emotionally, with full training and guidance provided.

What We’re Looking For:

  • CACHE‑ Early Yearsor an equivalent childcare qualification would be beneficial
  • Paediatric First Aid is helpful but can be completed during employment
  • Experience supporting children in a school, nursery or childcare environment is an advantage
  • A caring, patient and relationship‑focused approach to working with young learners
  • Clear and confident communication when working with pupils, colleagues and families
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow professional guidance
  • A willingness to learn, develop and take part in ongoing training
  • Understanding of safeguarding expectations and the need for confidentiality
  • Reliable, organised and able to use initiative appropriately

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils’ learning by reinforcing teaching and helping children stay engaged
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation in line with school values
  • Follow strategies recommended by external professionals to meet individual needs
  • Motivate pupils to participate actively and build confidence in their learning
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships that help remove barriers to progress
  • Work with pupils individually or in small groups to strengthen understanding
  • Deliver structured interventions under the direction of the SENDCo and class teacher
  • Assist with a short lunchtime supervision duty (30 minutes)
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion and accurate record‑keeping
  • Carry out additional tasks appropriate to the role as required
