Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (KS5 experience is desirable but not essential).

  • Plan and teach a broad and balanced English curriculum, including literature, language, creative writing, and analytical skills.

  • Inspire confidence, creativity, and a love of reading and writing among students.

  • Support extracurricular activities such as reading clubs, theatre visits, creative writing competitions, and school events.

  • Encourage participation and inclusion for students of all abilities and backgrounds.

  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing constructive feedback to support achievement.

  • Promote high standards of behaviour and create a positive learning atmosphere.

  • Work closely with colleagues, parents, and carers to support student progress and wellbeing.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.

  • Previous experience teaching English at secondary level is preferred.

  • Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for English education and literature.

  • Ability to engage and motivate students with a range of abilities and interests.

  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and school events.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Holds, or is willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check and suitable professional references.
