We are seeking an experienced Mining Estimator to develop accurate and commercially sound cost estimates for mining projects from conceptual through to feasibility stage. You will work from first principles, using project scopes, drawings, specifications and programmes to build estimates at the required level of accuracy, while coordinating inputs from engineering disciplines, suppliers and contractors. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop cost estimates from conceptual through to feasibility stage.
  • Prepare estimates from first principles using scopes of work, drawings, specifications and project programmes.
  • Prepare estimate documentation appropriate to the required class of estimate.
  • Develop estimates using historical cost information where appropriate.
  • Produce quantity take-offs.
  • Prepare bid packages and obtain budget pricing from suppliers and contractors.
  • Consolidate tender and bid information into project estimates.
  • Conduct commercial adjudications.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates in line with required project schedules.
  • Prepare detailed Basis of Estimate documentation.
  • Apply value-engineering principles and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in estimate, study kick-off, progress, coordination and review meetings.
  • Maintain estimate databases and accurate supporting records.
  • Liaise closely with Project Managers, discipline engineers, contractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure all estimates are complete, accurate and compliant with applicable quality procedures. 

Requirements

  • Strong mining knowledge is essential.
  • Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering with a Blasting Certificate; or
  • BCom (Financial) together with a BSc; or
  • Degree or Diploma in Mine Surveying with an Elementary Survey Certificate.
  • Minimum intermediate proficiency in the full Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in a similar estimating role at a comparable level is advantageous.
  • EPCM experience is advantageous.
  • Underground mining experience is advantageous where relevant.
  • Strong numerical ability and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, standards and specifications.
  • High level of competency in spreadsheets and/or database applications.
