The Role

We are seeking a permanent System Accountant to join our small Group Consolidations and Reporting team. This role has been created in response to increased workload in the consolidations area and will work alongside an experienced System Accountant, reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller. The successful candidate will be involved in a blend of business-as-usual month-end and year-end activities, as well as ad hoc reporting and systems projects. The role offers a balance of supporting and leading responsibilities, providing valuable exposure to group-level financial processes within a complex international organisation.  It is expected that the role will be largely remote, with a requirement to attend either the London or Portsmouth office, with an expectation of one day per week on average.

Key Responsibilities

Cognos Controller

  • Perform monthly group consolidations in Cognos Controller.
  • Manage the opening and closing of ledgers (Controller and base ledgers).
  • Roll forward opening balances in Controller & Load monthly FX rates.
  • Maintain and execute the month-end timetable.
  • Post group-level journals (eliminations, offsetting, amortization of group intangibles).
  • Monitor regional submissions and ensure timely completion.
  • Review data quality and provide feedback to regional teams.
  • Generate and distribute internal month-end reports from Controller.
  • Supporting on Group year end audit
  • Handle support tickets. Provide Level 2 user support and liaise with third-party IT providers for Level 3 support.
  • Manage user access and support onboarding/offboarding (leavers and joiners).

ERP Systems (Infor Sun Systems or Similar)

  • Ensure prior periods are locked and manage authorised re-openings.
  • Extract and reconcile data from multiple base ledgers.

Excel Automation & Reporting (VBA)

  • Develop and maintain VBA macros to automate reporting tasks.
  • Design and populate Excel templates for recurring and ad hoc reports.
  • Summarise and transform data for internal and external reporting needs.
  • Proven experience with Cognos Controller in a complex group environment.
  • Strong understanding of month-end close, consolidation, and intercompany processes.
  • Experience with Infor Sun Systems, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP platforms.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including VBA macro development.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities across regional teams.
