I am working with a large financial services business who are recruiting for a Tax Manager, this role will be reporting into the Head of Tax, this role will support a range of product and operational tax activities across the business. The position focuses on pension products as well as retail offerings, including personal pensions and other investment products available directly to customers and through financial advisers.

While the primary focus is on pensions, experience or awareness of wider tax areas such as PAYE, ISAs, FATCA, CRS, and other product-related taxes would be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor on product and operational tax matters, supporting business initiatives by identifying potential tax risks, exposures, and implications. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders to provide clear, practical recommendations that enable informed decision-making.
  • Deliver technical tax support across product tax compliance and reporting obligations, including requirements for both customers and HMRC.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to Product, Operations, and Marketing teams, ensuring tax considerations are appropriately reflected in new product developments, enhancements, and regulatory updates. This includes contributing to approvals and ensuring adherence to all relevant obligations.
  • Support engagement with external stakeholders such as tax authorities, auditors, and advisors, particularly during key reporting periods (e.g. tax year-end), while ensuring robust controls, processes, and issue resolution practices are in place.
  • Stay up to date with legislative and regulatory changes, assessing their impact on the organisation and translating complex developments into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and communicate tax risks, ensuring they are clearly understood by both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders, and appropriately escalated where necessary.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across internal teams and external partners, including industry bodies, consultants, and key third parties, to support effective management of product tax matters.

Skills Required

  • Ideally hold a recognised professional qualification in tax or finance (e.g. CTA, ACA, CA), or demonstrate equivalent experience within financial services, particularly in product taxation.
  • Strong understanding of UK tax legislation, HMRC guidance, and regulatory frameworks, particularly in relation to pensions and savings products, with awareness of FCA and related reporting requirements.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to understand how products operate within the wider business strategy and regulatory landscape.
  • Experience supporting product tax compliance and reporting processes, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to think strategically, taking a broad, end-to-end view when solving problems, supported by sound data analysis and a clear understanding of objectives and outcomes.
