Production Supervisor - Wakefield

Aqumen Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a Wakefield-based manufacturing business for an experienced Production Supervisor to join and help develop its production operation.

This is a key, hands-on supervisory position offering a salary of £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience, working predominantly on a 6:00am - 2:00pm day shift.

The department is currently being developed, so the successful candidate will need to offer some flexibility around working hours initially while the operation is established. The core hours for the role are 6:00am - 2:00pm.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Production Supervisor or Manufacturing Team Leader who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, leading from the front and taking ownership of people, productivity, safety and quality.

The Role

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating day-to-day production activities, ensuring operational targets are achieved safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

• Supervise production operatives and ensure productivity, efficiency and throughput are maintained.
• Lead the team by example and promote high standards of Health & Safety, quality, housekeeping and punctuality.
• Ensure safety procedures, operating procedures and codes of practice are followed.
• Promote a strong Health & Safety culture and identify opportunities to reduce workplace risks.
• Work closely with Production and Quality Control on continuous improvement initiatives.
• Carry out regular product quality checks and ensure agreed working practices are followed.
• Help ensure customers receive the correct product, to the required standard and within agreed timescales.
• Identify production issues, deal with minor defects and escalate larger problems appropriately.
• Report machine faults and suggest improvements to equipment and processes.
• Maintain production efficiencies while working to minimise waste.
• Liaise with office colleagues regarding production schedules, new orders, pallet requirements and despatch times.
• Support production planning and departmental throughput.
• Help ensure team members are trained for the work they undertake and training records remain up to date.
• Conduct toolbox talks when required.
• Provide hands-on support within the production team when necessary to maintain output and operational requirements.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with previous experience supervising or leading people within a production or manufacturing environment. You should be a confident, practical leader who is comfortable being involved in the day-to-day operation rather than managing solely from an office.

• Strong communication and team leadership skills.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Good attention to quality and operational standards.
• A genuine commitment to Health & Safety.
• The ability to work with initiative and see tasks through to completion.
• A cooperative, hands-on approach and willingness to support the wider production team.
• Experience improving productivity, reducing waste or developing production processes would be advantageous.

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 DOE

Location: Wakefield

Shift: Days

Core hours: 6:00am - 2:00pm
