SEN Teacher / ECT – The Role:

As an SEN Teacher / ECT, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with severe speech and communication difficulties. 

• Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of students.
• Creating a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment that promotes communication, independence, and confidence.
• Using alternative communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, AAC devices, and visual supports to facilitate learning.
• Building trusting relationships with students, ensuring they feel valued, understood, and supported.
• Working closely with speech and language therapists, SEN specialists, and teaching assistants to develop targeted support strategies.
• Fostering life skills and independence, preparing students for their transition into adulthood.

SEN Teacher / ECT – Candidate Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or pending QTS (for ECTs).
• A strong commitment to SEN education and a belief in ‘unconditional positive regard’ for all learners.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt teaching strategies to support non-verbal and minimally verbal students.
• A resilient, empathetic, and nurturing approach, able to handle challenging situations with patience and understanding.
• Experience working with SEN students, either in a school setting or through voluntary roles, tutoring, or placements.

Salary & Career Progression:

• Paid according to the Main Pay Scale (MPS), ranging from £31,650 to £43,607, depending on experience and qualifications.
