Job Title: Principal Process Engineer

Job Purpose

A leading energy company is looking for a Principal Process Engineer to support the development and execution of major greenfield and brownfield projects. The role involves providing technical expertise to optimise the design and execution of facilities, ensuring they meet operational and commercial objectives. You will also play a key role in liaising with internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects successfully, contributing to both domestic and international oil development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct technical studies to support feasibility and conceptual development of oil projects, including reviewing and validating proposed concepts, equipment demand, energy requirements, and emissions.
• Perform studies such as simulation, energy demand estimation, greenhouse gas emissions, and cost estimation to assess the suitability and effectiveness of facility designs in line with the company's objectives.
• Participate in project reviews, workshops, and committees to identify cost-effective designs for new developments.
• Review major project deliverables throughout the lifecycle to ensure that designs are technically sound, fit for purpose, and align with the company's technical and financial objectives.
• Perform lifecycle techno-economic evaluations of field development projects to assess the economics and commercial viability of development concepts.
• Develop and oversee contracting strategies to ensure alignment with project requirements, ensuring competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
• Validate technical inputs used in the development of commercial and fiscal agreements for projects.
• Review project progress reports submitted by external partners and report major highlights, risks, opportunities, and recommend actions to ensure the project achieves its objectives.
• Ensure that lessons learned from existing projects are incorporated and shared across assets to reduce CAPEX and OPEX.
• Establish and maintain a technical database for facilities, ensuring all design specifications, cost estimates, and schedules are accurately recorded.
• Serve as the focal point for surface facilities, working closely with subsurface, commercial, finance, and legal teams to ensure the project meets the company's strategic goals and complies with technical standards and regulations.
• Review and endorse field development plans and business plans to ensure alignment with the company's strategic vision.
• Provide technical advice and support regarding discrepancies in work plans and budgets to ensure effective project implementation.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers, contributing to career development and supporting nationalisation and career development plans.

   

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 15 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years' experience in both greenfield and brownfield oil and gas projects.
• Extensive experience across all stages of the project lifecycle, from conceptualisation through to operation.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineering within process plants is desirable.
• Hands-on experience with engineering software applications such as HYSYS, Pipesim, and cost estimation tools.
• Proven experience in large-scale upstream developments, particularly in the evaluation phases of projects, including Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design stages.
• Familiarity with international standards and process deliverables at each project stage.
• Experience in developing execution plans and contracting strategies for major projects.
• Expertise in dynamic flow assurance, including understanding the requirements and interpreting outputs and impacts.
• Skilled in benchmarking and producing order-of-magnitude cost estimates and economic evaluations for project viability.
